The staff here is pretty good, and usually fairly quick. It's a small store though and hard to find a table, even worse since they let a homeless man camp out in the store all day taking up two tabels in the back. Really frustrating.
I have been a loyal Starbucks Rewards member for over 3 years now. This means I have spent hundreds if not THOUSANDS on Starbucks products.
The Dinkytown Starbucks is always at capacity with studying students and the UMN crowd nursing a collective hangover. If you're all about that atmosphere, go for it. I would definitely avoid it like the plague during finals season, there's a total aura of misery and defeat (not to mention it's packed to the brim with students who look like they've all been through hell).
I'm thinking about canceling my membership now and taking my business to another coffee chain that wouldn't do something so petty.
Minnesota nice.... love how nice they are... send some if them to NJ!!!
What can I say? It's a Starbucks.
Every year on one's birthday, Rewards members get a free drink as a reward for being members. Two days before my birthday though, my phone was damaged and I was without a phone during my birthday, meaning I could not use the Rewards app to redeem the birthday drink voucher in the store.
All the baristas are over worked students, bless their hearts, so don't expect a chipper diner waitress vibe.
Any decent manager in that situation would simply verify that it was my birthday and let me have my free drink, but not this one. He just couldn't let one customer get his $4 birthday drink - what a tough guy you are.
This Starbucks sometimes offers premium coffees, something that not all Starbucks do. In addition to this, they seem to have a nice jazz music selection. There is also a special table for cyclists and pedestrians, which is pretty cool. They are frequently very busy which makes it difficult to find a good place to sit.
I showed the manager my license to prove it was my birthday and asked if he could look up my account via my name, phone or email, but he declined. He repeatedly asked me for my Rewards card, even though I NEVER got one and told him multiple times that I never had a card, only the app.
If you want a coffee shop that appeals to an older crowd, try walking a few blocks south to some of the other options. But for a quick pop in, this place isn't bad.
