I arrived at 9:40 parking lot was full but cars were pulling out & leaving as cars pulled in, got Through security check easily Guards were pretty descent Good attitudes & asked what i was there for to assure i was at the right place. I was dreading going based on reading others reviews but my experience was very pleasant, i checked in sat down and noticed the guards were very helpful to those that asked for help, the waiting area was clean Full of people but no one being loud or causing any scene, numbers were being called quite quickly so the wait wasn't dreadful as others had mentioned,
Your telephone que system started 20 years ago when I worked there. Surely, it would have been updated since then????
No, instead everything is "online;...." so you think. Many of today's retirees never grew up doing everything on a computer. And, with all the hacking, and fraud; why should we trust a "secured line." Why just a few years ago OPM retirement system was hacked. You say it's been fixed now. I can only hope. As an "old, old timer" states; "Hope springs eternal."
It's unfortunate that so many services are only offered at this single location, and that their hours are fairly restrictive. It makes it a hassle to come in for many, and you can sense that inconvenience and impatience and anxiety shrouding everyone when you walk in. However, my personal experience was overall fine.
I've never been given less than 1 hr wait on telephone to COA, and if you want this info within 45 days, you"d better get a better system than that. My time is just as valuable as yours.
I came in on a Monday afternoon to get a name change after getting married. It was very crowded when I arrived a little before 3:00 PM, and my number was not called until 4:08 PM, technically after the office was closed. I was very relieved they still called me up and processed my request. The window agent was polite and prompt, and I received my new cards a week later.
I've attempted to update my address over 5 times; and there is even though there is a specific que for address changes. Technology today "should" allow a reporting system, by phone that need not take a max of 10-15 minutes-at worst timing.
Came in for a new card after getting married. Parking was adequate and it was a little less busy than normal according to my phone. Security staff were polite and very patient with people. The system seemed as efficient as possible and I got in and out in 50 minutes. Bring a book, leave extra bags in your car and have all your paperwork ready to go in advance to help speed things up.
I would certainly advise trying to complete whatever you can online. If you do have to come in person, try to come early and bring a book!
Sandy.
Decent. I expected a nightmare, and it was easy and breezy. I spent no more than ten minutes total getting my replacement SS card. It might have been good that I came the day after a winter storm.
