This place is amazing. Beautiful, rare art. Rex, the store owner, has been doing this a long time and is a painter himself. He takes great pride in his store and in showing you around. He displays amazing hospitality. I ended up leaving with an amazing print of a painting he did of Mother Theresa that now hangs in my home. Definitely pay this beautiful gallery a visit.
Incredible African Art!! Took some back to Washington, D.C.!!!!
I visited the gallery to see what items they have to offer. I entered the store in the middle of the afternoon. My first impression of the store was extremely positive. I haven't seen a gallery with this size of collection and options out of Chicago or either coast. I noticed while walking in the open sign, hanging next to the entry, was off. I pulled the string to turn it on. The owner of the store, Rex, confronted me about turning on his open sign. He was very upset that turned on the sign on, he made no insinuation. He told me that "as a white person walking into a black man's store, I'll turn on the sign." But if he was a white man, I wouldn't touch the sign in a white man's store. I was extremely shocked by the statement. I decided not to respond, left the store. Very sad some people are still narrow minded.
I visit this gallery often and I've bought beautiful art here. It's a gorgeous gallery and features art from across the continent of Africa. It's a treat to enjoy outstanding African art on a wintry day in North America.
