I want to like this place on concept. But the execution is poor. Not only poor, but insulting. A co-op opens in a "food desert", in one of the most socioeconomic challenged areas in town. I am hopeful and excited, maybe I will not have to go as far to get good healthy food, or I will at least have a place to stop and get staples without having to drive all the way out to my usual spots. It is small - you can only do so much about that. But the thing that has me steaming... The Combos for sale. A whole section of regular grocery store candy, like Snickers and Kit Kats. Sure, there are some healthy choices. The milk is organic, but some off brand. Very tiny produce section and then a whole section of canned goods, including processed foods that have nothing natural about them (I'm talking like Mary Kitchen Corned Beef Hash). I wanted to scream. I can walk to any of a number of corner stores in the area and get half of the things in this store. Do you think northsiders don't or can't cook? Cmon!! That we won't pay extra for fresh stuff we can't walk over to Wally's to get? It is sad and insulting to see that this store felt like they had to stock themselves up like every other gas station in the area just to get business.
Great Co-op making fresh local produce and foods available. Friendly staff and easy location.
Great option on this side of town! I love the larger co-ops with all of their fresh and healthy choices, and I want to support this new one even if it's got fewer choices than I'm used to.
Their product mix includes some of the shelf stable over-processed food you'd find in any tiny Ma & Pa; I was told that food was more familiar to local residents, but the solicitations promised a focus on fresh meat and vegetables.
The sandwiches are fantastic! This time I got the chicken salad with cranberry wild rice bread, the best I ever had! The staff is so friendly and helpful! I will be back to try more sandwiches! And it's all in the hood!
When I was there a month ago, shelves were a bit understocked, but that will probably improve as their cash flow grows
Friendly staff, clean and attractive.
