I called them up to see if they'd give my bike an appraisal and they told me over the phone that they'd give me half of what the retail rate is if it's in good condition. I drive an hour and 15 minutes over to drop it off. They call me a day later and say they'll give me a measly $37. I paid $450 originally and kept it in great shape. I drive up to pick it up and the bike mechanic tells me it's a fine bike and should retail at $375. There's a big difference between $187 and $37. A waste of time.
I'm done with Hub Bike Co-op as my bike shop. New chain and cassette installed 9 months ago are both completely worn out and skipping. I installed new chain this week and then noticed worn cassette, as gears were still skipping. The mechanic at the Hub suggested buying a new cassette and see how it wears. Cassette should last 3-5000 miles with good chain. I expected them to replace the cassette free of charge, since it wore so quickly, or give the "at cost" amount for the cassette they installed as a credit on a more durable cassette today. Recommendation for me to buy a new cassette and see how it wears is unacceptable.
This was not my first issue with their service department.
After bike commuting 17K miles, I know that new cassettes with new chains don't wear out after 9 months/1000 miles.
Never been to the Hub Bike Co-op before, but am very glad I stopped by. I needed a knobby rear tire for my mountain bike. Then, for my first time ever, I proceeded to attempt to install the new tire in their DIY room. I had lots of questions and the staff answered them all and were very helpful. And to top it off, the guy at the front showed me a great website to find trails on. How cool is that! Needless to say, I had an awesome day at Theo Wirth Park thanks to the Hub!
Poor customer service = poor customer retention.
Awesome crew, very patient with this novice. Chris was great to work with and he took care of all my needs and did a fantastic job explaining things. Looking forward to riding my new bike.
I've been bringing my bike here for several years. There's almost always a wait in the service area, but I don't mind because the staff know their stuff. This trip I had a rusty chain and frozen brakes assessed. Both were fixed in 15 minutes. My bike was test-driven by one staff and double-checked by a second staff, so I'm confident in the work done.
